ASK THE LAWYER By Daniel A. Gwinn, Esq.

daniel best picQUESTION: What is a Power of Attorney and do I need one as part of my estate plan?

ANSWER:     Everyone needs a Power of Attorney. The Power of Attorney is a legal document giving permission to someone you pick to handle your business and legal affairs if you can’t do them yourself. For example, your Power of Attorney could pay your bills or hire other professionals to assist you. The person you choose as your Power of Attorney is required to act in your best interests. You may limit the scope of authority of the person you chose as your Power of Attorney. Your attorney can draft the Power of Attorney document to fit your unique situation.
